Leaving a Legacy

Dezmen Roebuck (Class of 2025) is one of the highest rated players in Arizona as he returned for his senior year at Marana High School shining at offense while also contributing his skill set to their stacked defense. Coming into his senior year, Dezmen put up some crazy numbers under his belt, including 44 catches as a freshman, 92 receptions for 1,200+ yards as a sophomore, and 121 receptions for 1,300+ yards as a junior, all playing on the varsity team. It wasn’t an understatement for those to say Dezmen would be breaking the state-record for most receptions in a career early into his senior season, as he only needed about 4 games worth of his average receptions to break it.

A Date to Remember

On September 13th, 2024, the undefeated Higley Knights (Gilbert, AZ) take on the undefeated Marana Tigers at home for a matchup that was posed as one of the best games of the entire year. Marana, entering the game as underdogs, knew exactly what they had to do in order to shutdown this powerhouse team from dampening their perfect season. As this game persisted, Higley showed dominance in the first 3 quarters as they took control on offense leading by 15 points over Marana entering the 4th. This was the chance Marana needed to take in order to pull off a win. Knowing how well Marana’s passing scheme was, Marana decided on a more aggressive approach in the passing game, leading to a win over Higley with 23 unanswered points in the 4th quarter, making the comeback. In the process, Dezmen was thrown his 283rd reception, making him the new and current all-time leader in receptions for the state of Arizona. Knowing that Marana has 4 more games to play left in the regular season, expect about 70 more receptions added to that record as his average this season comes to about 10 receptions per game.

What is next?

Dezmen is currently committed to the Jedd Fisch led University of Washington huskies team set for next year. With other scholarship offers coming from Arizona State, Portland State, and UNLV, Washington looks to be the best fit to add a shifty offensive weapon like Dezmen. As previously stated, Dezmen has 4 more games to stretch the record out and continue to build his legacy as a highly talented wide receiver in the state of Arizona for his class…
