Adrian Stubbs’ go-ahead and-one jumper gave the Maryvale Panthers an upset win over Liberty to cap off a monumental performance by Stubbs.

Panthers G Adrian Stubbs has consistently flown under the radar in a talented pool of players in Arizona heading into this season. Last night, the junior made a statement not just to the defending 6A Champion Liberty Lions, but the entire state.

In a 77-75 Victory over Liberty, Stubbs sent the Arizona HS Basketball scene into a frenzy, dropping a mind-boggling 56 Points, 11 Steals, and 5 Assists. That ridiculous stat-line also included a go-ahead mid-range jumper to put Maryvale up by 1 with 17.0 seconds to-go in the 4th Quarter. Maryvale, who was sitting at 6-6 entering the Thursday Night matchup, knocked off the previously undefeated Liberty Lions, who stood at a perfect 7-0.

Stubb’s performance sends him into the Arizona HS Basketball Record Books. With 56 points, he finishes just one point shy of Pinnacle-Alumnus and former Golden State Warrior Nico Mannion’s 6A Record of 57 Points. According to AIA Records, 56 Points ties Stubbs for 20th all-time for most amount of points in a game (shared amongst 4), and is the 2nd-most points scored in a game since 2018-2019.

While 56 points stands to be Stubb’s career-high, stat-lines like the one he put up Thursday night are nothing new to him. This season alone, he has already put up 7 30+ point performances, including a 3 game stretch vs Mountain Ridge, Mountain View, and Durango. Not one-dimensional either, his absurd stat-line recorded his 7th Double-Double of the season, his 3rd from Points and Steals. While the 56 points is incredibly impressive, his 11 steals on the night is his 2nd-highest mark of the season, as he recorded 12 against Mountain View just last week.

The ’26 Guard is off to a blazing-hot start this season, enjoying averages of 29.5 PPG, 6,3 APG, and 7.1 Steals per Game, all of which lead the 6A Conference. His PPG average is good for the most in Arizona (4A-6A), and is 29th in the nation. His 7.1 Steals per game has him ranked #4 in the nation, as well.

Stubbs is by-far the leader in all major offensive categories for Maryvale, and has so far formed an intriguing duo with Senior Forward Devin Murphy, who leads he team with 12.4 Rebounds per Game, and is the Panthers 2nd-Leading Scorer behind Stubbs.

The Maryvale Panthers, lead by Stubbs, will continue to seek to make noise in a hotly-contested 6A Conference this year. Maryvale has not made a playoff since the 2008-2009 Season, and had not had a winning season since ’08-’09 up until last season. The Panthers are set to take-on the 7-2 Queen Creek Bulldogs following winter break.
