Valley Christian Repeated today as 3A State Champions with Dominant 6-0 Win Over Yuma Catholic.

The Valley Christian Trojans captured their second straight 3A State Championship in outstanding fashion on Monday, shutting out the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks 6-0 at Diablo Stadium.

This marked the third meeting between the two teams this season, with Valley Christian sweeping the season series. The Trojans edged out Yuma Catholic 2-1 in a tight contest on March 19, and followed that up with a convincing 7-1 victory on April 21. Monday’s championship shutout capped the season sweep and cemented Valley Christian’s dominance over their 3A rival.

Junior ace Cameron Bergloff was nothing short of brilliant on the biggest stage. The leftie dominated from start to finish, throwing a complete-game shutout while giving up just three hits, striking out nine, and walking only two. It was a fitting performance for one of the team’s leaders and a huge reason why Valley Christian has been the team to beat all year. With Bergloff in command, the Trojans locked up their second straight 3A state title and closed out another incredible season in style.

The game broke open in the bottom of the third when Brayden Waggoner delivered a clutch RBI single to put the Trojans on the board. From there, the defending champs never looked back.

Waggoner led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs to fuel the Valley Christian offense. Ryan Sanchez also recorded a pair of hits, continuing his strong postseason performance. Bergloff contributed at the plate as well, driving in two runs to help extend the Trojans’ lead and put the game out of reach.

Valley Christian’s defense was flawless, not committing a single error. Caleb Danzeisen led the team in the field with nine total chances, anchoring a defense that kept Yuma Catholic off the scoreboard all game long.

Yuma Catholic struggled to generate offense against Bergloff’s sharp command and velocity. Erik Topete, Daniel Ruiz, and Ivan Guzman each managed one hit apiece for the Shamrocks, but the team couldn’t string anything together to threaten the reigning champs.

Yuma’s starter Mickey Fox took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits through four innings, striking out five and walking two.

With the win, Valley Christian not only defended its 3A state title but solidified its reputation as a powerhouse in Arizona high school baseball.
