There was no doubt who the better team was Tuesday night at Diablo Stadium. The Corona del Sol Aztecs brought the energy, the bats, and the arms—rolling past the Casteel Colts 10-0 to win the 6A state championship in decisive fashion.
It was the perfect redemption story. Back in Week 1, the Colts handed Corona a tough loss to open the season. But with everything on the line this time, the Aztecs flipped the script—and then some.
Corona wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, Connor Long drew a bases-loaded walk to push across the game’s first run. Kellan Tom added a sacrifice fly, and David Moss broke things open with a two-run single to make it 4-0 before Casteel could record three outs.
Moss kept the pressure on in the third with another RBI, this time on a sac fly, stretching the lead to 5-0. From there, the Aztecs didn’t let up—adding five more runs before the game was called.
On the mound, Texas commit Brett Crossland was in complete control. The righty shut down Casteel over five dominant innings, giving up just three hits while striking out seven. He worked with confidence, attacked hitters early, and never let the Colts get comfortable.
At the plate, Ben Jacobus set the tone at the top of the order, collecting three hits in four trips. David Moss came through in the clutch, driving in four runs on a perfect 2-for-2 night. BYU commit Jaiden LoRe added a single, drew a walk, and crossed the plate once, while Conor Rae chipped in with two solid hits of his own. Connor Long added a spark on the basepaths, swiping two bags to help keep the pressure on Casteel all game long.
Defensively, the Aztecs were sharp and clean. They didn’t commit an error all night, with Arizona State commit Cooper Clouser anchoring the infield behind the plate and leading the team with seven defensive plays.
Casteel, which came into the title game riding momentum, just couldn’t get anything going. Evan Hedlund got the nod for the colts and ran into trouble early, giving up four runs in the opening frame before being pulled. Casteel’s offense never found its footing, managing just a few scattered hits from Ryan Harwood, Ryne Barker, and Andres Armenta.
For Corona del Sol, the win was the perfect ending to a standout season, securing a state title and getting payback against the team that handed them a loss to start the year.
