GOODYEAR, AZ — 2A Trivium Prep opened their season with a 28-6 victory over Phoenix Cortez on their home-turf in a Week 0 matchup.
In what started as a sloppy, turnover-heavy first-half, Friday’s small-ball matchup turned into a resounding win for the Crimson Knights of Trivium Prep.
Trivium’s win was powered by ’27 ATH Benjamin Wolfley, who celebrated his birthday with 315 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns along with 13 tackles, was the leader on an offense that looked nearly unstoppable on the ground at multiple points throughout Friday’s contest. His 315 rushing yards came on 19 carries. His best moment of the game came in the 3rd quarter, breaking off a 55-yard rushing touchdown in where he simply could not be caught by a herd of Cortez defenders.
Wolfley, who was one of 2A’s best all-around players in 2025, looks to continue his dominance in the conference. He rushed for 1,846 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2025 while also tallying 63 tackles and 6 interceptions in 11 games played. He will be crucial to a successful 2026 for Trivium.

Starring alongside Wolfley was ’27 WR/LB Ezra Hall. Hall’s contributions on both sides of the ball did not go unnoticed. His first-quarter touchdown opened the scoring for Trivium, coming down with the ball on a contested catch at the goal-line to steal a touchdown for the Knights. Hall snagged a 3rd-quarter interception in the Cortez end zone in what was essentially the final nail in the coffin on the Colts. He finished the night with 4 catches for 122 yards and 2 Receiving TDs to go along with his pick.
A bright spot on the day for a Cortez offense that generally struggled to get going was QB/SS Jamerrius Anthony. Anthony battled multiple injuries on Friday night sustained throughout the game, including what appeared to be a head-injury that paused the game for roughly 15 minutes. Despite the injuries, he was often Cortez’s only life on offense. Anthony showed some solid speed and elusiveness on multiple plays throughout Friday’s game. He rushed for their only touchdown of the game in the 3rd quarter.
Trivium Prep got their 3rd-straight Week 0 win dating back to 2024. They’ll take on Chandler Prep next week.
